THE SCHOLARSHIP

AWARDS

Scholarships are currently $2,500 each and are awarded each year to one male student and one female student in each of the Calgary Catholic and Calgary Public school systems. The scholarship must be used towards the cost of a post secondary program and is paid directly to the institution upon confirmation of student registration.

ELIGIBILITY

Each Calgary area high school is entitled and requested by the Scholarship Committee to nominate one outstanding male student athlete and one outstanding female student athlete as their nominees to represent the school and be considered for the scholarship award.

The nominee provides the required information outlined on the application form provided by the nominee’s Athletic Director that includes academic transcripts, listing of athletic and extracurricular activities and letters of reference.

Please note that only successful applicants will be notified.

SELECTION PROCESS

The scholarship recipients are chosen based on the following criteria:

  1. Academic achievement
  2. Athletic achievement
  3. School citizenship, leadership, and community involvement
  4. Need

The selection committee consists of representatives from the Fr. Whelihan Scholarship Committee, and the Athletic Departments of both the Calgary Catholic and Calgary Public School Boards.
